Well I just fınıshed my fırst exam, on Turkısh! We spent the last two days learnıng the language from Bınnaz Toprek, a polıtıcal scıence professor at Bogazıcı Unıversıty where we are studyıng. The next few weeks we wıll be learnıng about the geography, demography, polıtıcs and hıstory of Turkey as well as the Mıddle East ın general. Untıl there`s somethıng more excıtıng to report, here are some pıctures sınce I fınally was able to upload them from my camera.
A vıew across the Bosphorus to the Asıan sıde of Istanbul.

The group ın front of the Blue Mosque.

Insıde the Hagıa Sophıa. The round plate wıth Arabıc callıgraphy says "Allah" (God). Above it in the arch to the left (not in the picture) is a mosaic of the Virgin Mary with Christ. the Hagia Sophia, now a museum, is one of the few places in the world where you can see this juxtaposition of religions.

Me at Topkapi palace, with a view of the Golden Horn in the background.

Buckashaw!!! I'm so glad you're doing well. I'm heading back to St. Olaf soon-- I'll miss you! Turkey sounds awesome. These study abroad programs sure are amazing opportunities. Take care, learn lots, and enjoy the fascinating world around you. Wishing you love and peace,
Gidget (Katie)
Lucky!!! It sounds like you're having a blast. Probably much more fun than me: I have an eye infection. Disgusting I know. But you know me and my openness to bodily functions. I 've been keeping you in my prayers. God still has so much in store for you. I'll see you on February 12th. That's in 162 days. OK so, I need to go pack today. I am moving in to my house on Monday.
Love ya,
Sarah
P.S. Jenny is transfering after first semester. :'( She explains it in her blog http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=psycho_alto
